This page explains how the gold and silver prices on GoldPricesGermany.com are obtained, calculated and updated, so you can judge how much weight to give them.
Spot prices for gold (XAU), silver (XAG) and currency pairs are provided by ForexInvestors.com, a real-time market data provider. The prices are delivered to this website in real time. The spot price is the international benchmark price for one troy ounce of the metal, quoted directly against the euro (XAU/EUR) and the US dollar (XAU/USD).
Spot prices are quoted per troy ounce. We convert them with this formula:
price per gram = spot price per troy ounce ÷ 31.1035 × purity

The prices shown are spot-based market prices. They do not include dealer premiums, minting costs, jewellery making charges or VAT. Retail prices at shops are normally higher than spot, and the buy-back price is normally lower. In Germany, investment gold (bars and coins that meet the legal purity requirements) is exempt from VAT, while jewellery and silver are subject to VAT. Always confirm the final price with your dealer.
